ABOUT

David Tuley was born in Oakland, CA and raised in Charlottesville, VA. He completed two degrees in cultural geography, while working as a landscaper, garden centre manager, and later, owner of Main Street Nursery in Westmoreland, Kansas. In south Louisiana he worked behind a drill rig, and in Kansas he launched a career in community & economic development.

Upon marrying a Canadian, David immigrated to Canada in 2002. As they raised a family in Ontario, he continued working in the municipal service for 18 years.

While on an impromptu jaunt in San Antonio, TX,  the family began the process of identifying 'things to do'. We gathered a 'pad map' in the hotel lobby, which was sadly focused on advertising shoddy goods & services. "We wanted to know where we could rent a bike, where we could safely ride it, and what we could see along the way - like historic sites, art shoppes, and craft beer," said David. So, we spent two hours with Google. Low and behold, there was a bike rental within walking distance, which was located next to a craft brewery and an art gallery. An hour into the ride, we visited three Spanish Missions.

"I've seen a million pad maps in my life, and they mostly have a common theme - 374 square inches of wasted space. It doesn't have to be that way," he added.

The idea for Community Map Co. and INFO ON THE GO maps was born. The goal is to maximize a visitor's orientation and to provide enough information so that they can develop any manner of tour, whether it be self-guided or professionally led. Common themes contained within these maps include geography, history, art, attractions, craft beverages, reliable foods, and pedestrian routes.

A side goal is to support as many small businesses and community amenities as possible - without regard to sponsorship dollars.

INFO ON THE GO maps are further supported by communitymapco.com, which contains a vault of thematic resource links. This time-saver further enhances visitor experience. For instance, the Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake map alone contains 106 links on our website.

Happy travels.
